Honey. It’s the 1980s. In Louisiana. At Truvy’s beauty shop — motto: “There is no such thing as natural beauty” — the women are all sass and brass. Through clouds of hairspray and over the buzz of blow dryers, six southern spitfires gather each week to gossip and support each other through thick and thin. But those bonds are about to be tested when M’Lynn and her daughter Shelby face a life-changing event. Infused with heart and humor, Steel Magnolias is a hilarious story of love, loss, and enduring friendship.

She originated the role of Rebecca in the New York premiere of Dean Poyner’s Together We Are Making a Poem in Honor of Life. She has toured nationally in numerous shows including Fiddler on the Roof. She played Eugeria Bremer on AMC’s award-winning series more(Ouiser ) is a seasoned Broadway performer appearing in Jane Eyre, Beauty and the Beast, Copperfield, Me and My Girl, My Favorite Year and A Change in the Heir. She has toured nationally in numerous shows including Fiddler on the Roof. She played Eugeria Bremer on AMC’s award-winning series Remember Wenn and was a featured voice in Disney’s Aladdin and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. For three years she was Mrs. Santa in Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular. She has appeared in Far From Heaven (Playwright’s Horizons and Williamstown Theatre Festival); the North American debut of Beauty Blue Eyes (Music Theatre of Wichita); Dividing the Estate (Palm Beach Dramaworks); The Full Monty (Theatre Aspen). Recent work includes Mood Over Buffalo at the Gulfshore Playhouse and a TV pilot of the story and comedy of Nunsense. Hopefully to be seen on a network near you in the not-too-distant future. (u/s Clairee and Ouiser) is a professional actress and Professor Emeritus at Case Western Reserve University, where she was a master teacher in the CWRU/CPH MFA Acting Program. She has performed throughout the country and does film and commercial work. Robert Harling

(Playwright ) made his directorial debut with The Evening Star for Paramount, which he also wrote for the screen based on Larry McMurty’s novel. The Evening Star reunited Shirley MacLaine and Jack Nicholson and co-stars Juliette Lewis, Bill Paxton, Scott Wolf, Miranda Richardson, and Marion Ross. The Evening Star more(Playwright ) made his directorial debut with The Evening Star for Paramount, which he also wrote for the screen based on Larry McMurty’s novel. The Evening Star reunited Shirley MacLaine and Jack Nicholson and co-stars Juliette Lewis, Bill Paxton, Scott Wolf, Miranda Richardson, and Marion Ross. The Evening Star is the continuation of one of the most beloved and acclaimed movies of our time, Terms of Endearment. Before launching a successful stage and screenwriting career, Robert graduated from Tulane University School of Law, but instead of taking the bar exam, he opted to become an actor in New York. After years of productive work as an actor in voiceovers and commercials, Harling was inspired to write the highly acclaimed stage play Steel Magnolias, which was based on events from his personal life. Steel Magnolias continues to thrive in theatrical productions throughout the world. Immediately bridging a career from stage to screen, Harling adapted his original play into the popular film of the same title, which starred Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, and Daryl Hannah. Over the years, Mr. Harling has become a much sought-after screenwriter: other credits, to name a few, include Soapdish, which was based on Harling’s acting experience and starred Sally Field, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robert Downey Jr., and First Wives Club for Paramount, starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton.

Tom Humes

(Assistant Stage Manager ) serves as an Assistant Professor for the School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State University, where he teaches courses in Stage Management, Production Management, Theatre Management, and an intro course to computing software for the theatre practitioner. Tom has been a part of the stage management teams with: Porthouse Theatre, Cain Park, Cleveland Play House, McCarter Theatre Center, Dobama Theatre, Beck Center for the Arts, Karamu House, Cleveland Orchestra and Opera Cleveland. He has been an assistant production manager, events production manager, and senior production manager/assistant to the general manager at Cain Park. He is also a member of the I.A.T.S.E. Tom is twice published, with a recent book review of Stage Management Theory as a Guide to Practice: Cultivating a Creative Approach featured in Theatre Topics and he contributed to the book, Off Headset: Essays on Stage Management Work, Life, and Career with his essay, “Maximum Flexibility”.

(Director ) (she/her) became Artistic Director of Cleveland Play House in 2013, and has directed numerous CPH mainstage productions, including The Crucible; Sweat; The Diary of Anne Frank; In the Next Room, or the vibrator play; Into the Breeches!; Every Brilliant Thing; and the world premieres of Tiny Houses, more(Director ) (she/her) became Artistic Director of Cleveland Play House in 2013, and has directed numerous CPH mainstage productions, including The Crucible; Sweat; The Diary of Anne Frank; In the Next Room, or the vibrator play; Into the Breeches!; Every Brilliant Thing; and the world premieres of Tiny Houses, The Good Peaches, Fairfield, and A Carol for Cleveland. She joined CPH in 2010, having arrived from Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island, where she was Resident Director and Artistic Associate for four seasons and Interim Director of the Brown/Trinity Rep M.F.A. in Directing Program for one. (Lighting Designer ) is a New York City based lighting designer. Her Broadway credits include Danai Gurira’s Eclipsed starring Lupita Nyong’o, and John Leguizamo’s Ghetto Klown, also filmed for HBO. Jen’s Opera credits include Les Pêcheurs de Perles and Die Fledermaus at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC; and La more(Lighting Designer ) is a New York City based lighting designer. Her Broadway credits include Danai Gurira’s Eclipsed starring Lupita Nyong’o, and John Leguizamo’s Ghetto Klown, also filmed for HBO. Jen’s Opera credits include Les Pêcheurs de Perles and Die Fledermaus at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC; and La Traviata, Faust and A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Mariinsky in Russia.
